Zacatecas Flights Guide
Located in the southern area of Mexico’s northern state of the same name, Zacatecas is not to be outdone by its neighboring cities as a center of colonial history and modern traditions. It was founded in the beginning of the 16th century at the spot where silver was discovered. Its topography has aided in the preservation of historical buildings, and Zacatecas therefore offers one of the most impressive urban walks in the country.
The cathedral is representative of Churrigueresque architecture, and dominates the cityscape. From the zocalo, one can then visit the Church of Santo Domingo, which sits nearby and was built at the same time as the cathedral the mid 18th century. The entire city is bursting with history, and its museums summarize much of the region’s past. Museo Huichol is the best place to go to learn something about the local inhabitants and their history. The Museo Rafael Coronel has interesting exhibits and a large collection of masks. The unmistakable mountain called La Bufa is the city’s symbol, and a cable car brings visitors to the top in order to take in the view.
