Victoria Falls Flights Guide
Victoria Falls refers to both the name of the famous waterfall in Zimbabwe and the town that sits alongside it. Zambia’s Livingston is also beside the falls, but the bulk of the waterfall rests well inside Zimbabwe. Perhaps the local name for the falls is better than the name early European David Livingston gave them. “Mosioayunya” means “the smoke that thunders,” and is a much more fitting description—the waterfall looks nothing like Queen Victoria.
Once one arrives to the town of Victoria Falls, which has existed since colonists established it in the beginning of the 20th century in order to study hydroelectric possibilities, the real question is how to view the falls (white water rafting, canoeing, cruises, bungee-jumping, bridge tour, rappelling, cable sliding, swinging). The falls themselves are twice as high as Niagara. It is one of the widest falls in the world, and the aspect that sets it apart is the gorge that makes it look like its plunging into the center of the earth. Nearby there are several national parks, so visitors tend to combine a trip to the falls with wildlife viewing.
Many arrive by road and rail, but arriving by plane is also possible. Victoria Falls Airport receives flights from the following carriers: South African Airways, Air Botswana, Air Zimbabwe, Air Namibia and British Airways.
