Rhodes Flights Guide
A Greek Island located just off the coast of Turkey, and commanding a central position in the Mediterranean, Rhodes has seen the great movement of armies and navies over many centuries. It is here that the Colossus is said to have existed before the Persians melted its bronze into weapons to invade Greece.
There are numerous villages known for their beaches, resorts, or their archaeology, such as beautiful white Lindos with its towering acropolis. The main town, however, is Rhodes Town, located at the northern reaches of the island. The old town is impossibly well preserved. Underground tunnels create a maze beneath the city, whose ring walls have remained intact since the times of the crusades. Numerous castles dot the island, including the Castles of Monolithos and Kestellos and the many fortifications in and around Rhodes Town harbor. Ancient windmills remain standing, as does the dominant Palace of the Grand Master of the Knight of Rhodes. The Rhodes Archaeological Museum puts it all into context, and creates for a stroll down the Avenue of the Knights, for example, a fairy tale effect.
Rhodes International Airport is extremely busy during the summer months. Some of the major airlines include Thomson Airways, TUIfly, Ryanair, Condor, Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air, among many others.
