Rabat Flights Guide

Morocco’s capital sits on the Atlantic Ocean. It is a city that has long since outgrown the ramparts that gave it its name, “Fortified place”, but many of its historical landmarks are still standing. Today Rabat is the seat of the king, but in times past it had been a place of great trading civilizations, pirates and colonials. Rabat sits on the Bou Regreg River opposite the ancient city of Sale, which has age-old ramparts and a medina of its own, and a history dating back to the Phoenicians. In Rabat, its history can be seen in the layered surfaces of the old city, Chellah. Hannibal’s famous Carthaginians once held this area, but as elsewhere in the Mediterranean, it was subdued by the Romans. Rabat’s National Archaeological Museum can put the imaginings that the urban scape inspires into tangible form. Back in the city, one can find the Hassan Tower and Royal Mausoleum, but the Royal Palace is the most interesting building, since it houses the current monarch. One can’t visit it, and photos are prohibited. The Rabat-Sale Airport receives flights from Royal Air Maroc, Jetairfly, Iberia, Air France and Ryanair.
