Phnom Penh Flights Guide
Long ago known as the “Pearl of Asia”, Phnom Penh is a large, flourishing city in the country of Cambodia and has an estimated population of around 1.5-million. The city sits on the banks of the Tonle Sap and Mekong River, and has been the capital city of Cambodia since French colonization of the country. Phnom Penh offers attractions such as the ancient Phnom Chisor Temple, the breathtaking Royal Palace, and the National Museum that first opened in 1920 and highlights stunning Angkor Wat statuaries.
Some of the best attractions in the city include the historical site called the Killing Fields (also known as Choeung Ek, this site pays homage to the victims of the Khmer Rouge executions), the Flicks Community Movie House, check out performances at the Plae Pakaa, or take a fun day trip through Khuon Tour Private Day Trips, which is a travel company specializing in day trips throughout Indochina.
Don’t forget about the dozens of excellent restaurants in Phnom Penh; for authentic Cambodian cuisine, try The Laughing Fatman and be sure to try the Khmer curry with chicken, or if you’re in the mood for something a little different, make reservations at the popular Deco restaurant (order the crab cakes, chickpea fritters or the slow-cooked beef), or have breakfast at Crepe Mania Café for delicious crepes.
Shopping in Phnom Penh includes several markets, malls and smaller shops. Lucky has several locations in the city and is Cambodia’s largest supermarket. There are also smaller shops and retailers like Night Market, which occurs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and offers many stalls and vendors, and also be sure to visit Russian Market, where you’ll find lots of souvenirs and Western clothing.
Getting around Phnom Penh is fairly easy, there are several bus lines, a rail service, taxis and minibuses, and the Phnom Penh International Airport (the largest in Cambodia).
