Morelia Flights Guide
Morelia is the capital of the Mexican state of Michoacán, and many agree that it is the most beautiful colonial city in the country. Morelia takes what is typical of Mexican cities, that is, the collage of indigenous market scenes with the ancient grandiose sense of a Spanish colonial makeup, and exaggerates them both.
Morelia is situated on a number of gently ascending hills. The city center is an impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of conserved Spanish architecture and art, while toward the edges Mexico’s vibrant markets come to life and dazzle the eyes. Further out the modern city is created, with wide open park spaces and twenty-first century university campuses. Of the many attractions in Morelia, its baroque cathedral is king, complete with flying buttresses and cozy gardens. One cannot help but admire the 17th century aqueduct, and the Santuario de Guadaloupe lives up to the power of its name with acclamations of being one of the most breathtaking churches in the country.
The city’s newer airport is called General Francisco J. Mujica International, named for one of the past state governors. Aeromexico has flights to here from Chicago and San Francisco during the high season, and United and American Eagle connect to cities in Texas. Volaris also flies to Morelia from Chicago, LA and Tijuana.
