London Luton Flights Guide
After Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, Luton Airport is the next largest international air hub that serves London and its Metropolitan area. It is located 35 miles outside of London, and in the Luton borough of Bedfordshire.
The airport began as a base for the RAF during WWII. It was a key airbase during the Battle of Britain and also during the invasion of Europe. When the airport became commercial it was the most successful in the country; but today, it is in competition with Londonís other airports.
The main airlines with service to Luton are Wizz Air, Ryanair, Thomson Airways, EasyJet and Monarch Airlines. Other airlines include El Al, Carpatair, Flybe, Blue Air and TAROM.
To get to other cities in the London area, one must take a short shuttle to the Luton Airport Parkway station, which is served by a number of trains that connect the airport with other transport centers. The bus routes that offer direct routes into London are EasyBus and Green Line Coaches, and there are a number of other options for connections to other airports.
Most arrive to the airport to continue onward to London, but Luton has a number of attractions. Lutonís center is pleasant, and its St. Maryís Church would be of particular interest for the architecturally-intrigued. Also, the Luton Museum and Art Gallery is worth a stopover.
