London City Flights Guide
London is served by a number of major airports that ring its greater metropolitan area. London City Airport, however, is very centrally located. It was constructed in the 1980s to accommodate a growing need that could not otherwise be met by the airports already in operation.
Mostly small-craft planes can land at London City Airport, as opposed to Heathrow and Gatwick, for example, which welcome the largest passenger aircraft available. London City serves a growing need for the financial industry professionals who come on direct flights from international destinations. The carriers that have service to London City are Alitalia, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, Luxair, British Airways, Air France, Blue Islands, Air France and Sky Work Airlines.
The airport is connected to all the surrounding areas via the Docklands Light Railways system, which offers connections with the cityís other major transportation service routes including the Underground. The buses that come directly to the terminals are the 474 and 473 routes.
This airport is the closest airport for visitors and business travelers to get to the City of London financial district as well as the newer development at Canary Wharf. The City of London is the center of London, and a mainstay in English cultural attractions. Canary Wharf is home to the countryís highest modern towers, and serves as the center of Britainís financial institutions.
