Cuzco Flights Guide
The ancient capital of the Incan empire was impressive enough to survive the cruel hand of Spanish conquistadors. Occupying Spaniards found the Incan foundations to be so large and sturdy that they simple built their colonial architecture atop it. Today Cuzco is the cultural capital of Peru, offering visitors a glimpse into the past.
The city is comprised of many Incan foundations, which are as tall as walls and each stone is cut to perfection. This is the same kind of workmanship that is to be expected at the end of the several-day train journey to Machu Picchu, for which Cuzco is the jumping-off point. Many other Incan ruins exist in and around the city, including Sacsayhuaman, from where the best view over Cuzco is to be had. Back in the city, the Plaza de Armas, in the traditional Spanish manner, is fronted by the impressive cathedral, and surrounded by Spanish colonial buildings with wooden balustrades. The San Pedro market is filled with colors and aromas, and nearby restaurants offer cuy and alpaca dishes. There are countless museums to learn about the Incan empire and the Quechua culture.
