Cozumel Flights Guide
Just off the coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Cozumel is a Caribbean island with all the national flavors that make the Mexican Riviera so appealing. Its history is marked by shifting demographics involving the Maya, freed slaves, pirates and colonists.
Today Cozumel offers visitors a calm distraction from the often overbearing party atmosphere of Cancun. Cozumel is safe, and scooter rental companies provide the best means of transportation around the small bit of land. Besides pristine Caribbean beaches where sunbathers cool off by snorkeling, and apart from the world-class diving spots dotted around the island, there are also thought-provoking Mayan ruins at San Gervasio and at several other locations. The water is delectable to swim in, but a glass bottom boat offers another option that brings passengers over one of the largest reefs in the world, second only to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. For a final hurrah, ferries connect Cozumel to Playa del Carmen, which is has a booming nightlife scene.
To get to Cozumel, Cancun International is the largest nearby airport. However, the island has its own airport whose landing strips were first laid down during WWII. Most flights are seasonal, and the carriers include Frontier, Delta, American Airlines, Air Canada, Interjet, MAYair, WestJet, United and US Airways.
