Bangor Flights Guide
Bangor, Maine is one of the state’s most well-kept historical treasures. It is a city of some 30,000 people, with a much larger metropolitan area; but it has kept its 19th century small-town charm through the years, from the lumber boom, through the many wars and into modernity.
The city’s main architectural original is the Thomas Hill Standpipe, which is a turn-of-the-century metal water tank. Apart from it, the St. John’s Catholic Church steeple also pokes out above the skyline. The city’s aesthetic is other-worldly, with flush, colorful 19th century facades that run throughout the old “Great Fire” district. The Bangor Public Library and Graham Building survived the 1911 fire, as did others in the district. There are huge Victorian manors that were constructed by the lumber barons, and one of the country’s oldest garden cemeteries is the graceful Mt. Hope Cemetery. Elsewhere in the city one comes across the William Arnold House, one of the most popular among tourists. Built in the middle of the 19th century, today, Stephan King lives there.
Bangor International Airport receives flights from Delta, Allegiant Air and US Airways.
