Amritsar Flights Guide
As the holy pilgrimage city for the Sikh nation, Indiaís Amritsar is always active. They come from far and wide to pay their respects to their religionís Mecca, which instead of a big black building it is an extravagant gold ornate shrine surrounded by water.
The Golden Temple sits in the center of a reflecting pool reserved for male Sikhs to bathe in. One accesses the temple via a causeway crowded with vendors selling souvenirs and handkerchiefs for use to cover the head upon entering the temple. One must first get to the Amrit Sarovra pool through the Ghanta Ghar entrance, an encircling white building topped by a Victorian clock tower. Once at the Golden Temple, called the Harmandir Sahid, one enters freely to take in the magnificent interior. The Central Sikh Museum is located on the second floor, and offers a history of the Sikh religion and struggle. At night the temple is floodlit. Other things in the city to see include the Mata Temple, the museum in the summer palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and the Jallianwala Bagh garden where thousands of Sikhs were massacred at the beginning of the 20th century.
