Abu Simbel Flights Guide
Abu Simbel is an ancient site that is inextricably linked with the power of modern engineering. It was in the 1960s that the Aswan Dam was constructed, creating a lake that would otherwise flood the Abu Simbel temples. UNESCO came to the rescue, and moved the entire complex.
There is no town, just the temples. They are in Nubia, and are part of a grander UNESCO World Heritage site. There are two parts of the temple complex, the larger Temple of Ramses II and the smaller temple of Nefertari. Both are extraordinary statues carved into the mountain and decorated beautifully within.
Abu Simbel Airport serves the area in the far south of the country. EgyptAir is the only carrier with flights here.
