Why fly to Colorado Springs?

Colorado Springs provides heaps of natural beauty and loads of opportunity for outdoor fun.

The city sits in the lap of Pike's Peak along the south range of the Rocky Mountains. Summer visits to the city provide a great chance to go mountain exploring and if you get high enough in altitude you may even find yourself enjoying some snow. If you plan to rent a vehicle you can drive up to the summit of Pike's Peak. However, a really neat way to go up is on the old Cog Rail. The conductor will tell you all about what you're seeing on your way up and once you get there, enjoy the incredible scenery as well as shopping and dining.

The city itself is chock full of walking trails and parks and has one of the largest amount of green space in the country.

A popular site to visit is the Garden of Gods which is a National Natural Landmark. The red rock formations are astounding as they come in all sorts of sizes and shapes you could not have conceived. The Balanced Rock is a formation in which one rock appears to be almost magically balanced on one of it's points on top of another rock. Other rocks look almost like the fairy chimneys of another terrain. The park is also home to numerous birds and animals like bighorn sheep.

If you are a biking or running enthusiasts you have miles and miles of trails to play in when you visit Colorado Springs. The trail system includes the main Pikes Peak Greenway with many others connecting and weaving throughout the city.

With all the outdoorsy fun, it is no surprise that sports play a big role in the community. The US Olympic Training Center is also located here and that means Olympic-level athletes are often in the city and gives the city a bit of a unique buzz.

The city proper has all sorts of amenities and great local restaurants. If you're traveling with kids there are a ton of things to do like paintball, indoor golf and bowling for those rainy days. You can also take a tour of any one of the several museums that sit in the city, the neatest one might just be the Ghost Town Museum.

Colorado City is a breath of fresh air, literally. So give yourself sometime to adjust to the altitude and then go full tilt as you experience one of nature's most wonderfully carved cities.
