Virgin Australia Flights

Virgin Australia Airlines History

Virgin Australia is a lucky airline, which might be reason enough to fly with them. They were founded in 2001 by a group that involved the pioneer and owner of the principle Virgin brand, Richard Branson. Just a year later they were the fortunate rebounders that took over demand that was left over by a failed airline.
Today, Virgin Australia has risen to the second place among Australian airlines. Originally they had just a few airplanes and one destination. Now, only 13 years later, they have some 94 planes flying to 50 domestic and international locations. The company’s main airports are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland airports.

Why fly Virgin Australia Airlines?

Virgin Australia is not necessarily under the auspices of the Virgin Group that was founded by the British billionaire, but they are partnered nonetheless. In fact, the main owners are other airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Etihad Airways. Through these owners, a number of partnerships exist that offer perks to customers.
But the main incentive is in the company’s Velocity Rewards frequent flyer program. This reward programs functions much like others of its kind (even though it started out basing miles earnings on ticket price alone). Nowadays ticket price still matters, but the emphasis is on how many miles are actually flown. There are a number of membership levels, from Red to Silver, Gold and Platinum. Miles can go toward these memberships or be redeemed for free tickets and upgrades.

Virgin Australia Airlines Flight Destinations

Virgin Australia flies to all the major population hubs in Australia and New Zealand. In the region, Virgin Australia flies to Christmas Island, the Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, Indonesia, the Keeling Islands, Thailand, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, UAE and the United States. As one can probably see from this list, Virgin Australia is one of the premiere carriers between Australia, New Zealand and the relatively nearby Pacific islands.
The company’s partner airline Etihad Airways is among others with codeshare agreements with Virgin Australia, allowing passengers to fly on multiple airlines with one ticket. The other airlines with such agreements are Horizon Air, Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

On Board Virgin Australia Airlines

Virgin Australia offers three cabin class types. The first is of course economy. Domestic flights have more relaxed offerings, but all flights offer tea and coffee free of charge. On some international flights, food and drinks join the meals in the category of complimentary. One should visit the website for specific information concerning economy class offerings, which change from destination to destination. The entertainment options also shifted, but all come with seat-back screens. On newer flights, an advanced entertainment system provides access to inexhaustible databases of movies, TV programs and games.
There is also a premium economy option for those who want a little more space and upgraded full complimentary services.

Business Class Flights

Various Business Class options are available depending on whether the flight is domestic, short-haul international or long-haul. Also, there are a variety of aircraft and each has a different seat configuration. However, all Business Class offerings are top-quality upgrades from the former economy classes. The seats provide more room to stretch out, and complimentary offerings are on-demand. Business Class passengers also have access to the lounges.

Virgin Australia Airlines Lounges

Virgin Australia passengers who qualify to access the airport lounges will enjoy high-class comfort where they can relax, work or get tipsy. There are 9 Virgin Australia lounges available, in addition to the 19 lounges operated by Air New Zealand.
