Virgin America Flight Guide

Virgin America

Virgin America History

Virgin America is one of the United States of America’s newest airlines, having only been established in 2007. Since that time it has grown, mimicking the success of sister airlines Virgin Australia and Virgin Atlantic. Today, Virgin America operates a fleet of 53 planes flying to 23 destinations.
Virgin America is mostly owned by Americans, as the law requires, but it is part of the Richard Branson legacy, the British billionaire and financial icon who will open the first commercial space flights in history.
Virgin America has its main hub in San Francisco International Airport, but also runs significant traffic through LAX.

Why fly Virgin America?

Virgin America is built on a business plan that is shared by other companies under the Virgin trademark. Although it is not required to act under the influences of those sister groups, they remain partners and boost each other where they can. There are positive residual effects for the customers that choose to fly with Virgin America.
The frequent flyer program is called Elevate. It functions just as other loyalty programs do, only Virgin’s miles, or “points”, never expire. This means that one can accumulate tranquilly with time, and redeem the points for special perks when they so please. These perks include free tickets, seat upgrades, priority treatment, merchandise and more. There are many deals on offer that are constantly changing, keeping clients in the know via e-mail alerts.

Virgin America Flight Destinations

Virgin America flies to destinations within the United States and a few in Mexico. Those cities in Mexico include Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and Cancun. The main cities in the US include Seattle, NY, DC, Chicago, Ft. Lauderdale, San Diego, San Jose, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Dallas, Austin, Orlando, Philadelphia, Newark, Boston and Portland.

Virgin America does not have any codeshare agreements, nor is it a parent company of subsidiaries.

On Board Virgin America

Economy seats aboard Virgin America are all black leather, not unlike its sister airlines. One of the most attractive attributes of Virgin America economy class is that passengers here are treated like business travelers. They each have access to power for their electronics, and food and entertainment options are all available on-demand. There is more available for purchase onboard, but in general, one would be hard pressed to match the service on other carriers.
The same service is available on the Main Cabin Select premium economy class, where the seats off a bit more legroom than the standard cabin.

Business Class Flights

Business Class is simply called First Class on Virgin America. The seats are distinct for their white leather and black arm rests. These seats are much wider and can be reclined to a greater degree. In First Class, customers get perks before boarding and during, including on-demand food and entertainment throughout the flight.

Virgin America Lounges

Virgin America operates four lounges. One is in Los Angeles, and the others are located at the airports of Washington DC, New York and San Francisco. One will pay an entry fee in order to access these modernist lounges. They each have their own name; LA’s is The Loft, then there’s the Washington Clubhouse, JFK Clubhouse and San Francisco Clubhouse. The lounge in NY has a dedicated restaurant and pool table, among the general amenities. In SF there’s a cool bar with comfy red sinker chairs. All lounges have complimentary drinks.

Website

Virgin America’s website can be found at www.virginamerica.com. All of the information, from booking flights to reading about the aforementioned lounges, can be found there.
