Thai Airways Flight Guide

Thai Airways

Thai Airways History

Thai Airways is the largest airline of Thailand, the popular Southeast Asian country known for beaches, full moon parties and its monarchy. Thai Airways is the flag carrier of the country, and has been around since it was created through a merger with a struggling competitor in 1960. Today it has grown along with the tourist and business industries of the country.
Thai Airways is also a founding member of the Star Alliance, which means that those who fly with them can enjoy special circumstances that exist because of its relation with Star Alliance partners. Otherwise, the mainline fleet of Thai Airways has some 100 aircraft that serve over 75 different destinations. The company headquarters is in the national capital of Bangkok, and its main hub is the city’s primary air transit artery, Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Thai Airways Flights

Why fly Thai Airways?

Thai Airways aircraft sport colorful scenes, with multicolored seats in economy and a friendly, smiling staff that has obviously been well-trained to attend to passengers’ needs. On all international flights, the attendants speak English well. What’s more, the airline is obsessively clean, and engaged in serious procedures to quit the cabin of dirt and signs of use before every flight. Besides the aesthetic draw that the airline emits, there is also the incentive to fly Thai Airways for their rewards program.
That program is called Royal Orchid Plus, and can be earned on Thai Airways and its subsidiary airlines’ flights. Miles are divided into two separate groups, one called the Eligible Qualifying Miles and the other called Qualifying Miles. In addition, the Partner Miles can be earned through use of the Thai Airways credit card. Each passenger is capable of redeeming these miles for free flights, upgrades and other benefits. Eventually, they can become members in the Royal Orchid Plus program by earning over 10,000 Qualifying Miles. They will be either a Member, Silver Member, Gold or Platinum. Perks vary according to membership level.

On Board Thai Airways

As always, it depends on what model aircraft one will be flying on, but Thai Airways is proud of the high-end reclining abilities of its economy class seating. Attendants are very friendly, the seats and colored maroon, orange and violent, and the mood lighting is very tranquil. Many older craft still have drop-down and forward television screens to play the in-flight movies, but newer planes are equipped with the full-fledged AVOD entertainment system on personal television screens in the seatbacks. The complimentary offerings are very good, including a choice of meals on long-haul flights, ear plugs and eye shades, and optional toys to keep children distracted.
On longer flights there is a Premium Economy Class option, which provides more choices in all the above categories as well as amplified leg and arm room in a dedicate cabin space.

Business Class Flights

The Business Class is called the Royal Silk Class. Passengers sink into these spacious seats that can be reclined up to 170 degrees. The large-set armrest offers additional privacy with its winged shoulder. For electronic devices there are outlets for power, and a telephone is also available. The AVOD personal entertainment system comes with a huge selection of movies, music and miscellaneous programs to keep on occupied.
All passengers in Business Class receive an amenities kit. The meals are served in several courses, and customers are presented a wealth of drink offerings to complement the delectable food.
Royal First is the first class offering. These seats can be adjusted to a fully-reclined position in a space of some 7 feet for ultimate comfort. The entertainment system is likewise AVOD. First class comes with large touch-navigated screens. AVOD also includes advanced programs for language learning or courses on various things such as yoga and meditation. All this can be enjoyed with the very best headphones. The meal options are on-demand and highly upgraded, and they’re served on the finest plates. Each passenger is also given a set of sleeping clothes and slippers, and a valuable amenities kit.

Thai Airways Lounges

Business Class, First Class, and the high-level members of the rewards program can access the Royal Orchid Lounges. The main lounge is in the hub city of Bangkok, but Thai Airways lounges can be found worldwide. They offer a relaxing place to sit, converse, watch the news, work, freshen up, drink and eat. Where there is not a Royal Orchid Lounge, one can use Star Alliance lounges in their stead.
