TAP Portugal History
TAP Portugal has been around since 1945, and since then it has remained the major airline of Portugal. It is entirely owned by the Portuguese government, but that has not stopped it from being profitable. TAP Portugal is the national carrier, based out of its main hub at Lisbon Portela Airport.
TAP Portugal operates 69 aircraft that fly to 78 cities around the world. Despite the economic downturn, the company has placed orders for additional planes that will boost its fleet by almost 20 new aircraft.

TAP Portugal has various aircraft and their configurations differ. Longer flights have upgraded services and cabin classes, while domestic and regional flights are more basic. Economy Class offers personal touch-screen entertainment with AVOD technology. This comes packed with movies and games, radio channels and TV shows to choose from. On some craft, one can even access Wi-Fi internet. All snacks and drinks come complimentary, and on flights lasting over a certain number of hours, there is also complimentary meal service.
Business Class Flights
TAP Portugal’s Business Class is called “Executive”. As with economy, cabin configurations depend on the model of plane and the route being flown. Business Class Passengers can enjoy an upgraded selection on the AVOD in-flight entertainment system, which comes with a larger screen and complimentary advanced headphones. The meal service is upgraded, and is considered to be a fine dining experience. Finally, the seats are fully reclining to a comfortable angle, and pillow and blanket are provided.
TAP Portugal Lounges
Business Class and high-tier reward members are not only eligible for additional luggage capacity, but they get special access to TAP Portugal’s lounges. TAP Portugal operates lounges out of its hub in Lisbon. Those eligible passengers can access any of a great number of lounges through the Star Alliance partnerships that TAP Portugal holds.
