Regional Express HistoryRegional Express is a relatively new airline, founded only in 2002. It is headquartered in Mascot, which is a quaint suburb of Sydney. The airline operates small Saab planes that carry a fraction of the passengers that larger airlines do. Regional Express has 48 total planes that fly to 36 destinations, and though the idea is good, the carrier is currently struggling with a tough economic situation.  Why fly Regional Express?Regional Express is the best option for those looking to get somewhere that is within the state that they’re already visiting. Regional Express has four bases. Its primary base is in Sydney, but it also operates out of Townsville, Melbourne and Adelaide. The airline once had a frequent flyer program, but since it has faced cost cuts, the program was terminated. Regional Express Flight DestinationsFrom each of its 4 bases, all the major cities within those states are served. Adelaide’s hub serves cities throughout South Australia. Melbourne’s hub serves the state of Victoria. Sydney’s hub serves New South Wales and the planes based in Townsville operate throughout Queensland. On Board Regional ExpressRegional Express planes are all small aircraft. Therefore, they have a single-class cabin configuration. There is a complimentary drink service, but meals are not offered since most flights do not last long enough. There is no in-flight entertainment besides some reading material, so passengers are encouraged to prepare their own distractions. One must pay an annual fee to gain entry to the Rex Lounge, and it only exists at the Sydney hub. There are snacks, drinks, comfortable seating and a television to pass the time.
