Philippine Airlines Flight Guide
Philippine Airlines History
The Southeast Asian island country of the Philippines has a number of airlines that serve its 98 million-strong population. Philippine Airlines was founded in 1935 and has changed its name twice before settling on the current incarnation. Philippine Airlines has its headquarters in Pasay City, but its main hubs are in the capital, Manila, and Cebu City.
Philippine Airlines is a flag carrier of the country. It operates 56 planes, and together with subsidiaries it flies to some 77 locations. Those subsidiaries are PAL Express and Cambodia Airlines. Without the subs, Philippine Airlines flies to 39 locations.
Why fly Philippine Airlines?
Philippine Airlines was once one of the biggest airlines in the entire region. It has serious trouble at the end of the twentieth century, but today it is slowly reclaiming its status and reputation in the region and the world.
The rewards program is called Mabuhay Miles. This is a frequent flyer program that functions according to the same rules that most loyalty programs follow. One accrues miles that can be later redeemed for free flight tickets and upgrades. Not all fights award miles, though, so one should be wary. The program also allows one to gain in membership levels, from Base to Elite, Premier Elite and Million Miler, with specific perks for each tier.
Philippine Airlines Flight Destinations
Philippine Airlines flies mostly to destinations in the immediate region. They provide service to Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, several cities in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, four cities in Australia, and two cities in both the US and Canada. They also have service to Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE.
Through the airline’s subsidiary companies, Cambodia Airlines and PAL Express, passengers can arrive to many additional destinations. What’s more, Philippine Airlines holds a number of codeshare agreements with other airlines. These include but are not limited to Malaysia Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Garuda Indonesia and Korean Air.
