Lion Mentari Airlines Flight Guide
Lion Mentari Airlines History
Lion Air went through the economic crisis that hit the entirety of Southeast Asia in the early 2000s. It survived, and went on to become Indonesiaís largest domestic carrier. Indonesia itself has some 235 million people, so it should not come as a surprise that the airline is so successful in this market.
Lion Air is the operational name of the airline, though the holding companyís full title is PT Lion Mentari Airlines. The carrier has some 97 planes that serve 79 destinations.
Why fly Lion Air?
For those who are considering flying to multiple destinations within Indonesia itself, Lion Air is one of the main options. It is a modern airline that has a number of subsidiaries that also serve its mainline routes. These subsidiaries are Wings Air, Thai Lion Air, Batik Air, Lion Bizjet and Malindo Air. One might want to be extra wary, of course, as Lion Air currently occupies a spot on the EUís blacklist.
The airline offers its customers a frequent flyer program called Lion Passport. It is a standard mileage program that allows those who fly with Lion Air to gain miles. These miles can be used to gain higher membership in the Passport Club, or they can be redeemed for special perks such as free tickets, more luggage, upgrades and more.
Lion Air Flight Destinations
Lion Air, as has been stated, flies to primarily domestic cities. It does not have any codeshare agreements, and nor is it a member of international alliances. Those who fly on Lion Air can expect the perks available to be only redeemable aboard Lion Air and its subsidiaries. Itís recommendable to take this bit of information into account before flying with them.
One can opt to take buses and ferries to other destinations throughout the country, but as itís made up of many islands, itís easier to fly. Outside of the country, Lion Air flies to Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam. The furthest airport served is the Jeddah-King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia, which is seasonal and exists mainly for pilgrims and national migrants workers in that country.
On Board Lion Air
Lion Air economy class is made up of leather seats that offer standard pitch and width. There is no personal in-flight entertainment system on board Lion Air flights. The service provides complimentary drinks and snacks, but most flights are short and there is no meal service.
Business Class Flights
The Business Class is a standard, traditional product that offers upgraded seats with a higher pitch and slightly more hip room. Meals are catered on longer flights, but otherwise the snacks and drinks are free. It is widely known that the Business Class on Lion Air is not that much of an upgrade from economy class. It would do better to be rated as an economy plus cabin.
Lion Air Lounges
Those passengers who fly with Lion Air in Business Class and who have the higher levels of the Passport Club membership tiers can have access to the private lounges located at Lion Airís hub airports. These lounges are comfortable, and there is food and drink available. Besides that, they do not offer much of an upgrade in comparison to other airline lounges.
Lion Airís website is www.lionair.co.id. They have stunted information about lounges, fleet aircraft and seating arrangements. However, one can purchase their ticket here, and check back regularly for special deals.
