Japan Airlines Flight Guide

Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines History

Japan Airlines is part of the JAL group, which consists of this company and a number of subsidiaries that serve destinations both domestically and internationally. The airline was founded in 1955 and eventually became a privately-owned company in the 1980s. It is the main flag carrier of Japan and today is counted among the largest airlines in the world. The entire group consists of 279 aircraft. However, Japan Airlines by itself has 121 aircraft that serve 92 destinations.
Japan Airlines is part of the Oneworld alliance. This means that many of the perks that are available to passengers of the airline are also available via travel with one of those alliance partners. Japan Airlines has its main hubs at both of Tokyo’s international airports, and both of the international airports in Osaka as well. It serves one of the most urbanized countries in the world.

Japan Airlines Flights

Why fly Japan Airlines?

Japan Airlines has a reputation as one that provides top-quality service. It has a massive fleet and many incentives for flying with them have to do with the fact that through partnerships and the like, most destinations in the world can be had. Although the group experienced bankruptcy recently, it was in 2011 that they regained their stature of independence.
The main advantage of flying with Japan Airlines is the participation in its Mileage Bank frequent flyer program. This program is also available to anyone flying with the subsidiary companies, including Ryukyu Air Commuter, JALways, Japan Transocean Air, Japan Air Commuter, JAL Express and Hokkaido Air System. The program also functions in accordance with Oneworld partners.
Miles can be gained, preserved and in turn redeemed for flight tickets, upgrades, hotel accommodation, car rental, shopping perks and more. The time that a member’s account can be inactive is double the allowance offered by most other airlines. This program is called the JMB Fly On Program, organized into the following groups: Crystal, Sapphire, JGC Premier and Diamond. The more frequent travelers can eventually gain access to the JAL Global Club, which offers additional perks.

Japan Airlines Flight Destinations

Japan Airlines’ mainline aircraft fly to 33 international locations, and the group serves some 59 national airports as well. Japan Airlines flies to the US, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, the UK, India, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan and South Korea.
As has been previously mentioned, Japan has many subsidiaries, which greatly increases the destinations served by the JAL group in total. Destinations in Japan and the region are especially increased. What’s more, Japan Airlines is part of the Oneworld group, and can therefore offer its clients onward travel through those airlines. The codeshare agreements that it holds are with such airlines as Air France, WestJet, Korean Air, China Eastern and Southern Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, JetBlue, Emirates, Bangkok Airways, China Airlines, Vietnam Airlines and more. Through these agreements, passengers have the entire world open to them.

On Board Japan Airlines

The main Economy Class of Japan Airlines is spacious compared to many other airlines. The in-flight offerings include complimentary drinks and snacks as well as Japanese meals on long-haul flights. The seats are comfortable and the staff is careful.
The in-flight entertainment system mirrors those of other airlines in the trend to have personal television screens in the seatback headrests. This hardware has the MAGIC system installed, which is complete with the AVOD on-demand entertainment system. Many movies, television shows and various other programs are available, in addition to select programs and games suitable for children. In addition, there are cameras that are installed on the wings and rear of most planes, and the footage is viewable through the MAGIC system.
The Premium Economy Class is also available, which offers bigger seats, more diverse food options and more.

Business Class Flights

Business Class seating offers award-winning space and luxury. Different planes come with different configurations, but the newer planes and longer routes sport very spacious seats that are capable of fully reclining to a bed position, and unlike some Business Classes on other carriers, Japan Airlines’ Business Class resembles the privacy of a First Class suite. The preferential treatment that passengers of the Business Class receive is likewise very attentive and reflective of the smart sense of Japanese hospitality.
Business Class offerings include on-demand meals and amenity kit, complimentary pajamas and available laptop computer batteries on lend. The in-flight entertainment system is fully on-demand, unlike the choice-driven economy class, whose passengers cannot stop a movie in play. The meals in Business Class are to die for, served on expensive dishes and with the finest attention to detail.
First Class passengers get all this and more, including large, totally private seats, health care products, better sleeping wear and a portable massager that straps to the appendages.

Japan Airlines Lounges

Japan Airlines has a number of lounges to offer its Business Class and higher-tier reward members. The first of these lounges is the Sakura Lounge. There are a number of others on offer in domestic airports, including the JAL Lounge and the Diamond Premiere Lounge. International lounges include the First Class Lounge and the former Sakura. There are plenty of comfortable seating options available in these lounges, with calm mood lighting and good service. Private bathrooms are also available. Access to various lounges differs and depends entirely on class of ticket and membership level. Oneworld Alliance partners’ lounges are also available.

Website

The website is located at www.jal.com. It has all the information about the fleet, the services, the different kinds of cabins, routes, and it has a comprehensive guide to the use of the rewards program.
