Iberia Airlines Flight Guide

Iberia Airlines

Iberia Airlines History

Iberia Airlines was founded in 1927. “Iberia” refers to the peninsula that is shared by both Spain and Portugal. However, Iberia Airlines is the flag carrier of Spain only. It is a large airline that boasts 73 planes flying to some 102 destinations.
In 2010 the airline merged with British Airways, but the two flag carriers of their respective countries retain their colors. However, recently, the company has been put through the grinder of economic downturn, and has greatly reduced its carrying capacity. Nonetheless, though, it remains one of the preferred carriers in Spain.

Why fly Iberia Airlines?

Iberia Airlines is an experienced airline with years in the field, having survived the ravages of civil war to become the country’s flag carrier. Though it’s experiencing rough times, the hope is that Spain will come out of the crisis and its industries will once more flourish.
Iberia Airlines retains a working rewards program that offers ways to save money on your purchases. It is called Iberia Plus. One accumulates miles, or “Avios” as Iberia calls them, which like miles can be redeemed for free tickets, upgrades, car rentals and hotel rooms. There are also a number of other special advantages including lounge access and third-party associate perks. “Elite Points” are those points that accrue and dictate one’s membership level. The higher the level, the more the advantages.

Iberia Airlines Flight Destinations

Iberia flies to many destinations within Europe and abroad. They have regular service to the largest metropolises in the United States and Italy. They provide service to many locations throughout Latin America as well, including but not limited to Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Venezuela. They also fly to Israel, Algeria, Angola, Nigeria, Morocco and Senegal. Destinations within Europe include the UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Russia, Norway, Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Belgium.
Through the company’s subsidiary Iberia Express, many other destinations are attainable. Likewise, through the codeshare agreements that Iberia Airlines has, passengers can arrive to many addition locations throughout the world on one ticket. Some of the airlines who have codeshares with Iberia Airlines are Asiana Airlines, Comair, Vueling Airlines, Korean Air, Bulgaria Air, British Airways, El Al and others.

On Board Iberia Airlines

Economy class situations aboard Iberia Airlines are buy-on-board circumstances where all meals and merchandise are available for purchase. The seats are standard, and meals and drinks’ cost are listed on the in-flight menu. The case is different on long-haul flights, whose customers receive complimentary meal service. In-flight entertainment is based around the personal monitors in the seat backs.

Business Class Flights

There are several Business Class options that are available depending on the flight destination. The Business Class does not have seats that are different from Economy, and therefore one might prefer to think of them as Economy Plus. The only perk is lounge access and fully-catered meals. The Business Club seats are wider, however, and are separated from economy in a cabin of their own. These have the AVOD system for in-flight entertainment. Finally, Business Plus is available on long-hauls. This class is what one would expect of a modern Business Class, with fully-reclining seats that can be stretch flat, and full-catering service.

Iberia Airlines Lounges

The lounges are called VIP Lounges and are located in a dozen of the international airports where Iberia Airlines flies. Where there are not Iberia Airlines lounges, members can visit those lounges administered by Oneworld partners.

The website can be found at One can purchase tickets, log in to their rewards program account, review information about the airline and more.
