Etihad Airways Flight Guide
Etihad Airways History
Located at its main hub in Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways is the 10-year-old rival to the Dubai-based airline Emirates. It was a royal decree that brought about the creation of Etihad, which is not dissimilar to how Emirates was founded. Currently, Etihad is a very successful airline that has grown exponentially in the few years that it has existed.
Abu Dhabi is the second biggest city in the United Arab Emirates after Dubai, but it is the capital of the small Arab country, and the hub city of Etihad Airways. The airline operates 88 airlines that fly to 96 different destinations. Through various subsidiaries and agreements, and especially due to recent acquisitions of stakes in other airlines, Etihad’s clout is growing year after year.
Why fly Etihad Airways?
Etihad Airways is an award-winning airline with a focus on luxury. Indeed, most of its client base is the business-oriented customer, and Etihad Airways seeks to represent the worthiness of its role as transporter.
The frequent flyer program that Etihad Airways supports is called simply Etihad Guest. This loyalty program functions on the same basis that all loyalty programs adhere to. That is, members gain miles, and with these miles they can get free or reduced-price tickets, exchange them for upgrades, or purchase specially-offered products with them. There is an online shop that miles can be used for, wherein discounted products are on offer only to those who participate in the program.
Etihad Airways Flight Destinations
Etihad Airways is one of the most comprehensive airline services in the region. Globally, it is one of the only carriers that offers dedicated service to all six of the inhabited continents. It has service to many countries in the immediate region, the Middle East. South Asia is also served, along with many principle air hubs in Southeast Asia. Etihad Airways also flies to Australia, Japan, China and South Korea. Several cities in the United States and Europe are served, as well as in Brazil. Etihad Airways planes also make their way to a number of African and Central Asia hubs.
Etihad Airways is not a member of any airline alliance, but they have forged a disproportionately large list of agreements with other airlines. Just a few of over 45 airlines with such agreements include Turkish Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, All Nippon Airways, Air France, Air Canada, China Eastern Airlines, S7 Airlines, American Airlines, KLM, Jet Airways, Alitalia and more. Through these numerous codeshare agreements, Etihad Airways retains a level of clout in the world of air carriers while preserving its independence to make decisions apart from alliances. Its clients can fly with these codeshare airlines on a single Etihad Airways ticket, opening up most of the world destinations.
