Delta Airlines Flight Guide

Delta Airlines

Delta Airline’s History

Delta is one of the oldest airlines not only in the United States but in the world. It is the oldest in the US, having been founded in 1924, and flights began just 5 years later. Today it has expanded its operations to 6 continents, and domestically it is one of the largest carriers in terms of passenger traffic. Its main hub is in Atlanta, Georgia. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport happens to be the busiest in the world, having overtaken O’Hare International Airport in Chicago a decade ago.
The airline is part of the SkyTeam Alliance, as opposed to the competitor Star Alliance. With 727 planes, not counting the many additional flights via subsidiaries and codeshares that the company has fomented over the years, Delta counts among the most experienced of all airline companies. Delta operates out of 9 other hubs besides Atlanta, but its flights reach every major American city.

Why fly Delta Airlines?

As the oldest airline in the United States of America, Delta has had many years to develop its customer satisfaction ratings, which are up there with the best airlines on the planet. The seating is comfortable and spacious, even in the economy class, which is of course notorious for the stress that it can provoke. Staff is well-trained and disciplined, and Delta prides itself on the way it treats its clients.
Like all major airlines, Delta also offers a frequent flyer program under the name of SkyMiles. Every time a traveler books and uses their member code, the price of the flight translates into “miles” that can be redeemed for seat upgrades and which can also be put toward a future purchase, thus offsetting the total cost of that flight.

Delta Airlines Flight Destinations

Delta flies to six continents and all the major cities in its domestic home of the United States. The main line carriers consist of nearly 5,000 daily flights, while the subsidiary Delta Connection contributes an additional 2,500 flights per day to smaller destinations. In addition, the codeshare agreements that Delta fosters allows passengers to book a single flight through airlines such as Hawaiian, WestJet, Alaska Airlines, American Eagle, Gol Trasnportes Aereos in Brazil, Garuda Indonesia and Virgin.
Delta flies to Canada, Mexico, a myriad of Caribbean island nations, most Central and South American countries, most of Western Europe, 4 countries in West Africa, South Africa, Australia, the Philippines, China, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Russia, Thailand, Singapore, Turkey and Israel, among others.

On Board

Aboard a Delta flight one finds all the amenities that are to be expected on one of only six carriers to serve all six inhabited continents. On such long-haul international flights, the economy class receives complimentary meals in addition to the already-complimentary snacks and drinks. Items, spirits and upgrades are all available for purchase during the flights as well. All seats recline to a degree that is comfortable, and the adjustable headrests allow one to drift off to sleep without collapsing into a neighbor’s lap. For a slightly more relaxing experience, Delta offers its customers an option to upgrade to the Economy Comfort Class. It will not be as pricey as Business, but nor will it be as strenuous as economy inevitably proves to be for some travelers.
Delta has recently installed Wi-Fi service on many of its flights, which is available for an hourly fee. This decision has made Delta the number one carrier in the world for amount of Wi-Fi cabin access. In addition, each headrest is backed by a personal television screen on which passengers can watch complimentary movies on longer flights, and where they can view shows and control various audio programs during the hours of the travel.

Business Class Flights

On those flights that have a business class option, which comprises the grand majority of flights, passengers have the option of upgrading to a more spacious and comfortable situation. The First and Business class seats have more room between them, they recline to a greater degree and are wider as well. Some planes come equipped with USB energy ports for charging electrical devices.
On the longer, international flights, BusinessElite is the business class option. These fully reclining seats come packed with a personal screen that flips out from the divider, and a selection of movies is available. On different kinds of aircraft the configuration of these seats differs in the layout of their design, but compared to economy class they are both luxurious. Full meal service is provided, as well as complimentary wine and spirits. There are more items available for purchase, in addition to duty-free merchandise.

Lounges

Delta Airlines provides is premium members with the Delta Sky Club lounge network. These lounges are to be found in all of the carrier’s main hubs, as well as many of its focus cities. International Delta Sky Club lounges exist in Manila, Santiago and Tokyo. In addition, members of the Delta Sky Club also have access to partner lounges, which are located in all of the major international and national destinations.

Website

The main website for Delta Airlines is www.delta.com. The most recommendable course of action is to sign up for special e-mail offers, as often one is not privy to such information in the regular outlets of coupons and last-minute deals. In addition, one should visit the website regular to see about promotions that exist only on the company’s homepage.
