Asiana Airlines Flight Guide

Asiana Airlines

Asiana Airlines History

Apart from Korean Air, the other major airline of South Korea is Asiana Airlines. Asiana Airlines was founded in 1988, over three decades after the end of the Korean War. These days, South Korea has one of the best educational systems in the world. As such, its populace is highly-employable, and international business has ignited the rapid growth of all industries, such as air transit.
Today the fact that Asiana Airlines has many more international routes than domestic is testament to the recent history of the country. It is headquartered in Seoul, the capital city of the country. It has its main domestic hub at Gimpo International, while the large international terminals are located in Incheon International Airport. The airline consists of 83 aircraft, with more on the way, serving a total of 108 destinations worldwide.

Why fly Asiana Airlines?

Asiana Airlines has high-class service available for all cabin classes. It is a modern airline with a serious work ethic that considers even the smallest detail of utmost importance. In 2003 Asiana Airlines joined the Star Alliance, the world’s leader among groups of airlines. Through Star Alliance, customers of Asiana Airlines can enjoy shared flights and lounges, and reward programs that overlap with partner carriers.
The loyalty or frequent flyer program of Asiana Airlines is called Asiana Club. It functions according to a structure of five levels: Silver, Gold, Diamond, Diamond Plus and Platinum. With each new upgrade, members are granted additional privileges through the program. At all levels, miles can be accumulated and later redeemed for such things as free airline tickets, seat upgrades, merchandise purchases and more. The program is allied with a number of third-party establishments, agreements which can be reviewed on the company’s website.

Asiana Airlines Flight Destinations

Asiana Airlines, as has been stated, mostly serves international destinations. South Korea has a large population and a small territory. As such, only 14 destinations account for all domestic flights. There are 90 international airports that Asiana Airlines planes fly to. In the Americas, several cities in the United States are served, but no other countries. Africa is also not served by mainline flights. Most Western European nations, excluding the Iberian Peninsula, are also served. These include England, France and Germany, among others. Turkey and Australia also receive flights. Asiana Airlines flies to all regional countries except Mongolia, North Korea and Laos. Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, China and India are served. The Middle East does not see Asiana Airlines planes. However, the airline has regular routes to many Central Asian countries.
Through the company’s subsidiary Air Busan, additional domestic and international airports can be reached. In addition, the various codeshare agreements that Asiana Airlines shares with other carriers allow its clients to connect to the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, as well as a number of other countries not served by the company itself. Some of these airlines are EgyptAir, Air Acanada, Thai Airways International, US Airways, United Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, S7 Airlines, Air India and many others.

On Board Asiana Airlines

Domestic and international routes are serviced by different aircraft. Most domestic flights do not last longer than an hour, and therefore are not equipped with in-flight entertainment options, and nor are there meals on offer. Many domestic routes have a single class in the cabin. On international flights, the cabin is segmented between economy and business classes. The economy class is called “travel class”. The seats are beige cloth with red hair mats draped over a comfortable headrest. There is an in-flight meal service with typical Korean offerings, duty-free shopping, power connections for laptops and baby bassinets. There are amenities including a basic medical kit, and an entertainment system with games, movies and more.

Business Class Flights

On most international flights in the region, the Business Class and Business Smartium Class are the two classes on offer. The former offers a comfortable, fully-reclined seat with dividers for additional privacy. The meal service is upgraded, amenities are more valuable than travel class, and the same entertainment system is offered in Business. Smartium Business offers a fully-flat bed with additional privacy features, a larger screen, special reservation services, and power controls.
On long international flights to the US, there are two additional classes offered. The First Class offers even more privacy, a beautiful flush design, top-quality linen and pajamas, a Bulgari cosmetics kit, additional meal and amenity options, a satellite phone and a selection of top wines.
The final class is the First Suite Class. This is the ultimate expression of privacy and luxury. There’s a minibar, folding doors, special mood lighting and huge 32” television screens for use of the advanced AVOD system.

Asiana Airlines Lounges

Asiana Airlines operates a number of lounges for its passengers. Access to each lounge is determined by miles, membership status and ticket cabin class. The lounges include the Hansarang Lounge, the International Lounge at overseas locations, the International Lounge in Korea, the Star Alliance Lounges and the Codeshare Lounges that are shared with those airlines in which Asiana Airlines has entered into agreement. Thanks to the airline’s membership in the Star Alliance, those lounges are available in over 900 locations worldwide.
