Air New Zealand Flight Guide

Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand History

The history of Air New Zealand begins with its founding in 1939. However, it did not set up its first routes until 1965. Today, Air New Zealand has grown into the principle airline of the small Pacific island nation. It is a first-class airline that joined the Star Alliance in 1999. Today, between the mainline aircraft and those of its subsidiary, Air New Zealand operates some 105 planes that serve 61 destinations across the globe.
Air New Zealand has its main hubs in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington International Airports. Most of its routes deal in the region of the South Pacific and other island nations, but it also offers long hauls to places across the pond. Its fleet consists of a mix of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, in addition to smaller craft that are operated by subsidiaries.

Why fly Airline?

Air New Zealand has a reputation for good service, and as they say that New Zealand has some of the friendliest people on the planet, one can’t go wrong with the authentic vibe that the standard service comes with. What’s more, there have been some very intriguing sponsorship programs that might be convincing of Air New Zealand ‘s playfulness, including a safety video by the national rugby team and adverts themed Middle Earth.
The airline’s frequent flyer program is called Airpoints. It functions similarly to other loyalty programs, rewarding passengers for their continued business. The “miles” earned are called Airpoints Dollars, but work in the same way as miles in that they are collected and then redeemed for free tickets, upgraded seats and merchandise. The more Airpoints Dollars one gained, the higher in the membership categories they can climb. Those categories begin at Jade, then there’s Silver, Gold and Gold Elite. All it takes is a Business Class flight or 50 bucks to join.

Airlines Flight Destinations

Air New Zealand, as has been mentioned, mostly serves Australasia and Oceania. Air New Zealand is also one of the only airlines that flies to Antarctica at McMurdo Sound. Air New Zealand has 9 destinations in Australia, and 26 destinations domestically through its subsidiaries Air New Zealand Link, Eagle Airways, Mount Cook Airline and Air Nelson. Of the long-haul flights, there are several to the United States, many to Japan, a few to China and one to Australia. They fly to many island nations including the Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, French Polynesia, Niue, New Caledonia, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu.
Through its subsidiaries more destinations are accessible. Also, Star Alliance offers options alongside the many codeshare agreements that Air New Zealand has kept. These agreements are signed between Air New Zealand and the following airlines: US Airways, Turkish Airlines, Air Tahiti Nui, Aircalin, Air Canada, Fiji Airways, Cathay Pacific, South African Airways, Thai Airways International, Lufthansa, Asiana Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airways, United Airlines, Virgin and more.

On Board Air New Zealand

Air New Zealand services onboard are creative, innovative and customary. Flight attendants are well-trained and truly attentive to the needs of all passengers no matter what class they’re in. Domestic flight attendants don’t have to worry about such discrimination since all the aircraft are configured as a single-class cabin. The ticketing of these seats is organized into four categories that depend on whether or not passengers wish to have the ticket be refundable, if they have luggage to check, if they wish to have priority seat selection, and whether they wish to have a Space+ seat. These seats are the equivalent to Economy Premium seats, though most seats aboard domestic flights are especially comfortable in comparison to larger airlines’ seat design. There are no flight attendants on the Beech aircraft, but on all others, passengers receive complimentary drinks.
On international flights, there is AVOD in-flight entertainment options. The newest systems can be navigated just as a DVD, with hundreds of choices of music, movies and more. The 8-inch screens are located on the seat backs. Each seat is cool black leather that’s soft to the touch. What’s more, passengers on international flights also receive complimentary offerings including meal selection, in-flight magazine and more. An upgrade to “Pacific Economy” presents the option of Business-like chairs that are futuristic and create ample personal space. There is also an “Economy SkyCouch” that is offered on the 777, which is designed for families and couples to get extra space. Finally, there’s the Pacific Premium Economy, which shares lighting, wine and bathrooms with Business class.

Business Class Flights

Business Class does not exist on domestic flights. The “Space+” seats are located in the forward part of the cabin and are the equivalent. These offer a greater degree of recline and slightly more arm space than the other seats.
International flights sport various Business Class seats depending on the make of the plane. The 767 has the old, traditional business seats with leg rests, power outlets, iPod and USB ports, and a 15-inch recline. These seats will only be replaced when the aircraft is phased out.
Newer aircraft can hold the Business Premier seats, which resemble the modern flat-bed varieties of Business Class. Upgraded services, lounge access and more is available to these passengers.

The lounge is called Koru Lounge, and is located at many international destinations. These are lovely, comfortable lounges with tranquil lighting and an atmosphere conducive to relaxation. There are complimentary offerings to be taken advantage of. Business Class passengers and high-level members of the awards program can access the lounges.

Air New Zealand’s website is not surprisingly found at All the information is there, including flight info, service info, reward program guidance, and also the latest offers are listed on their homepage.
