Air France Flight Guide

Air France

Air France History

Air France has been the main French flagship carrier since its founding in 1933 when several other companies were combined into one. Air France was at one point the most successful airline in the world, and remains one of the largest operators in Europe. In 2003 Air France merged with Dutch airline KLM, but the airlines did not combine their logos and instead retain their colors and national hubs in their respective countries.
Air France has its main hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and in Paris Orly Airport as well. The HQ of the company is located north of the city. Air France has schedules that see flights to 36 destinations within France, including to the main sub-cities of Toulouse, Marseilles, Lyon and Nice. In addition, the airline flies to some 167 international airports, preserving it as one of the world’s heavy-hitter carriers.

Why fly Air France?

Air France offers a unique blend of French hospitality and modern aviation standards. The complimentary meals are often typical of French cuisine, and blow the competition out of the water. With a cohesive partnership and alliance docket, one cannot really go wrong with Air France even if their destination might seem in the middle of nowhere.
As for the perks of flying with Air France, their loyalty program is called Flying Blue, and should prove attractive to frequent flyers. Like other programs of this kind, KLM-Air France’s is based on miles, class and cost of the ticket. The program separates its mile awards into two categories, one of which determines the level of membership and the additional perks that come with it, and other is used to redeem tickets, upgrades, rentals, merchandise, etc.
There are four levels of membership. Basically, as is the case with most other frequent flyer programs, the more one flies and the pricier their ticket, the greater the rewards. What’s especially nice about Flying Blue is that one can accumulate their miles even if their flight is aboard one of the partner airlines in SkyTeam.

Air France Flight Destinations

As has been mentioned, Air France flies to 36 domestic terminals and 167 international ones. The airline provides service to Mexico, Canada and the US, and in South America to all the countries except the Surinams, Bolivia and Paraguay. Air France has service to almost all the European countries, Russia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, among others in the Middle East. It also has service to India, China, Japan, Malaysia and several other countries in Southeast Asia. Finally, Air France is one of the main carriers to African countries that were once part of the colonial holdings of the country. These include most Northern Africa countries, most Western Africa nations and several Sub-Saharan nations as well.
Apart from these mainline destinations, Air France customers also enjoy a comprehensive list of airlines with which Air France is partnered. These include 32 different carriers, among which are Luxair, WestJet, Japan Airlines, Gol Trasnportes Aereos, Cyprus Airways, Air Berlin, Air Tahiti Nui, Flybe, Alaska Airlines and many more. Air France also holds the two subsidiary companies CityJet and HOP!, which both provide additional flight plans to domestic and international locations. Finally, Air France is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, which includes such large companies as Korean Air, Delta and China Airlines, among others.

On Board Air France

Air France planes are categorized based on length of travel. Mostly, domestic flights are smaller aircraft with fewer services, while long-haul schedules use larger planes that come with more perks. Different flights have different economy class seating, but on some newer aircrafts one will find a greater degree of reclining in their seat, a personal telephone, the AVOD system of audio-visual entertainment and adjustable headrests. One of the unique offerings on Air France flights is the free alcohol. Snacks and meals are also served free of charge depending on the flight hours. Some aircraft sport the Premium Economy seats, which recline to an even greater degree. Those who purchase this option can bring twice as much carry-on luggage.

Business Class Flights

Business Class seats feature fully reclining seats, ample hip and arm room, and a touch-screen monitor that boast the AVOD system as well as several gaming features. French hospitality and gastronomy is not lost on the Business Class, and indeed passengers receive 3-course meals and a select cheese service as well. There are jacks for complimentary headsets, and for those who need to work, the table provides plenty of room, and AC outlets ensure your computer remains at full power.
Finally, there is “La Premiere” class on the long flights. These feature lounge chairs that can be positioned as beds. First-class passengers also receive on-demand entertainment and meal options, in addition to high quality drinks and cheeses. One of the best perks is access to the lounges.

Air France Lounges

Both Premiere Class and Business Class passengers can access the Air France lounges. First-class passengers have exclusive access to the Premiere Lounge. Members can also access the network of lounges that are offered by subsidiaries and partners in many airports around the world. The names of the various lounges operated by Air France are Departures Lounge, SkyTeam Lounge, Air France Lounge, Salon Air France and Arrivals Lounge.

Air France’s website exists in many languages. The main portal can be found at Here, special deals are published, and also one can get the e-mail subscription letters of notice for new hot deals on flights and packages.
