San Juan is the capital city of Puerto Rico. The major attraction of the city is the Old San Juan area, which is a walled area full of colonial buildings from the time of the Spanish occupation. Visitors can enjoy wandering along its cobble stoned, narrow streets and admiring the colourful buildings. A free tourist trolley offers an easy way to see the sights. Spanish Forts San Juan

The mighty six-level fortress of San Felipe del Morro, built in 1540, towers 140 feet (43m) above the sea on San Juan Bay, its 18-foot thick (5m) walls having proved a worthy defence against invasion.

La Fortaleza San Juan

The Fortaleza was built in 1540 as a fortress to guard the entrance to the San Juan harbour, but later became the official Governor's residence.

Saint John the Baptist Cathedral San Juan

San Juan's Cathedral was originally built in 1521 by Puerto Rico's first Spanish bishop as a thatched wooden church, but was destroyed in a hurricane in 1526.
