Stuttgart Airport (STR) is located 6 miles south of Stuttgart, Germany. The airport was built in 1939, and was taken over by the United States Air Force after World War II until 1948. In 2012, 9.7 million passengers pass through the Stuttgart Airport, making it the 6th busiest airport in Germany.

Transfer between Terminals

Stuttgart Airport consists of four passenger terminals. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are all connected in the same building. Terminal 4 is in a separate building but is connected to the other terminals via a walkway. The busiest domestic route from Stuttgart Airport is to Berlin, and the busiest international route is Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Transport into Town

Rail: Stuttgart suburban railway S2 or S3 from Stuttgart Flughafen/Messe station is connected to Stuttgart’s Central Rail Station. The journey between Stuttgart Central Railway Station and Stuttgart Airport takes 27 minutes. The Stuttgart Central Railway Station is part of the ICE, EC and IC network and located in the center of the city. Bus: Several bus routes provide direct connections from the region to the airport. Bus stops are centrally located in front of the terminals at the arrivals level.

There is one special lounge inside the Stuttgart Airport. Elli-Beinhorn Lounge is located in Terminal 1 in the Lounge Area on Level 3, and open from 5am - 9pm.

Stuttgart Airport is a hub for the Lufthansa subsidiary Germanwings. Air Berlin is the largest carrier at Stuttgart Airport, with 22.1% of the airport’s passenger traffic. Germanwings carries 19.8% of the passengers at the airport. Lufthansa has 15.8% of the market, TUlfly has 7.2%, and Condor carries 5.1% of Stuttgart Airport’s passengers.
