In 2012, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was the 6th busiest airport in the world with 63,688,121 passengers walking through its terminals. LAX is the primary airport serving the Greater Los Angeles Area, and is located 16 miles from Downtown Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Airport was founded in 1928 when barley and lima bean fields were converted into dirt landing strips.
Transfer between Terminals
LAX has nine passenger terminals arranged in a U shape. Terminal 1 houses AirTran Airways, Southwest Airlines, and US Airways. Terminal 2 hosts most foreign airlines along with a couple of domestic airlines: Aeroméxico, Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Avianca, KLM, Air New Zealand, Alitalia, Hawaiian Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Volaris, and WestJet. Terminal 3 opened in 1961 and houses JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Virgin Australia, Frontier Airlines, and Virgin America. Terminal 4 was renovated in 2001 and is home to American Airlines, which operates its West Coast hub at the airport. Terminal 5 hosts Delta, Terminal 6 hosts a variety of airline tenants, Terminal 7 is the home to United Airlines, and Terminal 8 houses United. Finally, The Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) has 12 gates and hosts most of the major international airlines. Terminals 6, 7, and 8 are connected by corridors. Terminals 5 and 6 are connected by an underground walkway. All terminals are served by a shuttle bus. Most inter-terminal connections require passengers to exit security and then re-clear security before entering the terminal.

Transport into Town
Bus: The closest bus stops to the airport are two stops on Sepulveda and Century Boulevards. These bus stops are served by Torrance 8, Metro 117, Metro 232, Commuter Express 574, and Metro 40. The FlyAway Bus is a motor coach shuttle service run by the LAWA. The FlyAway Bus travels between LAX and San Fernando Valley (Van Nuys), downtown Los Angeles (Union Station), and the Westside (Westwood). Shuttle bus "G" offers a free connection to and from the Aviation/LAX station on the Los Angeles Metro Rail Green Line. Shuttle bus "G" runs every 10–15 minutes from 5 am–1:30 am. Taxi: Authorized Taxicab Supervision Inc. (ATS) maintains a taxicab holding lot under the 96th Street Bridge. Private shuttle companies also offer limousine and bus services to LAX airport.
Terminal 1 houses an US Airways Club. Terminal 2 includes an Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge, Air New Zealand Koru Club, Hawaiian Airlines Premier Club, and an Air France Affaires/ Premiere Lounge. Terminal 3 is home to a Virgin America LOFT. Terminal 4 hosts an American Airlines Admiral's Club, American Airlines Flagship Lounge, and a Qantas Club. In Terminal 5 travelers can find a Delta Air Lines Sky Club. Terminal 6 houses an Alaska Airlines Board Room and an United Club. Terminal 7 includes an United Airlines GlobalFirst Lounge and an United Club. There are no airlines lounges or clubs in Terminal 8. In The Tom Bradley International Terminal travelers can find a Star Alliance Lounge, SkyTeam Lounge, Oneworld Lounge, Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Lounge, and a reLAX Lounge. Nearly 8,000 parking spots are available in eight parking structures located opposite the passenger terminals. Parking at the Central Terminal is $30 a day. Economy Parking Lot C is located at 96th Street and Sepulveda Boulevard and costs $12 a day. Lot C provides a free shuttle to and from the economy parking lot and each LAX Terminal.
