The first major airport in the United States, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) opened in 1928 and was the busiest commercial airport in the world until LaGuardia Airport opened in December 1939. EWR handled 34 million passengers in 2012 and is the 3rd largest hub for United Airlines. EWR is located about 15 miles from Midtown Manhattan in New York City.
Transfer between Terminals
Newark Liberty International Airport has three passenger terminals, and three concourses per terminal. Terminal A is separated into three satellite buildings, designated as A-1, A-2, and A-3. A new Welcome Center opened in the terminal in 2011. AirTrain Newark, a monorail system, connects all three terminals with the parking lots, parking garages, and rental car facilities.

Transport into Town
Rail: AirTrain Newark, a monorail network, connects the terminals with the outer parking lots, parking garages, and rental car facilities. It also gives travelers access to the Newark Liberty International Airport Station that connects to Amtrak and New Jersey Transit (NJT) service. Passengers can use this connection to travel from EWR to any station along New Jersey Transit's Northeast Corridor Line or North Jersey Coast Line. Stops include Newark Penn Station, Secaucus Junction, and New York Penn Station. The monorail is free for use between all terminals, parking lot, and garage stations. Bus: NJT buses provide local service to Irvington, Downtown Newark, and Newark Penn Station. From these locations, connections are available to the PATH rapid transit system. Newark Airport Express offers express bus service between Newark Liberty International Airport and New York City. Buses are only $16 one way or $28 round trip. Buses arrive every 15 minutes during the day, with departures every 30 minutes before 6:45 AM and after 11:15 PM. Olympia Trails operates express buses to Port Authority Bus Terminal, Bryant Park, and Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan. Taxi: Taxis serving the airport charge a flat rate based on destination. Helicopter: New York Helicopter operates service between the airport and the Downtown Manhattan Heliport.
Terminal A hosts two United Clubs and an American Airlines Admirals Club. Terminal B houses British Airways Galleries Lounge located near Gates B50-58, Lufthansa Senator Lounge near Gate B60, and Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse near Entrance to Gates B51-B57. A Delta Sky Club is located in Concourse B-1. Before security, travelers can find a Jet Airways VS Lounge.

EWR offers wireless internet access that costs $4.95 per hour or $7.95 for a Day Pass which includes unlimited access for a 24-hour period. EWR is a pet-friendly airport and offers several pet relief areas outside of security. Past security checkpoints, there are no pet relief stations.
Short-term parking is available in Lots A, B, and C. Short-term parking rates are $8 an hour and $33 a day. Daily Parking Lots are called AirTran Access Lots and are located a few minutes from the terminal. AirTran Access Lots include Lots P1 and P3 and Garage P4. Rates are $8 an hour and $24-$27 a day. One Economy Parking Lot, P6, is staffed 24 hours a day and is serviced by frequent shuttles. The first 24 hours in Lot P6 is $18, after the first 24 hours the rate is $6 for each 8-hour period. For travelers in a hurry, valet parking is available in lot P4. Valet parking rates are $40 for the first 24 hours and $20 for each additional 12-hour period.
