Overview


Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is located 10 miles south of Baltimore, Maryland and 32 miles northeast of Washington, DC. BWI is the busiest airport in the Washington, DC metro area. In 2010, more than 21 million passengers used Baltimore International Airport making it the 47th busiest airport in the world. The airport was named to honor the first African American to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. In 2007, BWI was ranked one of the "Top 10 Easiest U.S. Airports to Get to" by Aviation.com.

Transfer between Terminals


Baltimore International Airport has five concourse, although Concourses A and B were merged into a single concourse in 2005. Concourse A is home to Southwest Airlines, Concourse B hosts both Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways. Concourse C is connected to Concourses A and B by a walkway. Concourse E serves as the international terminal.

Transport into Town


Bus: WMATA's Metrobus on Route B30 transports travelers between BWI and Washington Metro’s Greenbelt Station every 40 minutes. The Maryland Transit Administration's Bus Route 17 serves BWI 24 hours a day. MTA Commuter Bus route 201 connects BWI with Arundel Mills, Burtonsville, Norbeck, Shady Grove metro station, and Gaithersburg. Howard Transit's Silver route operates between BWI and The Mall in Columbia, Maryland. Rail: BWI Rail Station is located approximately one mile from the airport terminal. The airport is connected to the station via a free shuttle service. The rail station is served by Amtrak Northeast Corridor trains and the MARC Penn Line. Light Rail: The Maryland Transit Administration's Light Rail line has a stop outside the airport's International Terminal. The Light Rail transports travelers to various points of interest. The Light Rail trip from the airport to downtown Baltimore takes approximately 30 minutes. Taxi: Taxis are located outside of the baggage claim area of the Lower Level of the BWI Marshall terminal.

Airport Lounges


British Airways operates the Chesapeake Club Lounge near the entrance to Concourse E. The USO operates a lounge on the lower level between Concourses D and E. There is also an Airspace Lounge located in Baltimore International Airport.

Major Airlines


BWI is a focus city for Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines represents approximately 71% of passengers at BWI. Delta is the second largest airline at the airport with 8% of passenger traffic.

Airport Facilities


Wireless internet is available without charge for 45 minutes. Longer internet connections are available for a fee. BWI is home to two Cardio Paths. These paths lead walkers on a 20 minute stroll throughout the airport. A 1K round-trip walk around the terminal's upper level between Concourse A to E. A second 1K path leads walkers around the secure area of Concourse A and B. A Meditation Room is located on the upper level between Concourses D and E. The BWI Observation Gallery is located on the upper level of the airport between Concourses B and C. The Observation Gallery is home to history exhibits, art displays, and children’s play equipment.

Car Parking


Hourly Garages are the closest parking options near the terminal. Parking in the garages costs $4 for an hour and $22 for a day. Daily Garages offers 8,400 posts and costs $3 an hour and $12 for a day. Express Parking is connected to the terminal via a free shuttle service. Parking in the Express lot costs $4 for an hour and $10 per day. Long-term parking lots are connected to the terminal via a free shuttle service and cost $8 a day.
