Overview


Birmingham–Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) is located 5 miles northeast of downtown Birmingham, Alabama. The airport was named in honor of Fred Shuttlesworth, a U.S. civil rights activist and minister in Birmingham, Alabama. BHM opened in 1931 and approximately 3 million passengers pass through the airport each year.

Transfer between Terminals


Birmingham International Airport has one terminal building and two concourses: Concourse A and Concourse B. Concourse A is used by Southwest, Delta, and US Airways. Concourse B is used by United, American, and US Airways. The airport is accessible by foot.

Approximately seven airlines operate out of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Southwest Airlines is BHM’s largest carrier, transporting 1.31 million passengers and 45% of Birmingham International Airport’s passengers. Delta is BHM’s second largest carrier, having carried 807,000 passengers. ExpressJet comes in third with 15.34% of Birmingham International Airport’s passengers.

Several unique pieces of artwork are displayed throughout the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, including Larry Kirkland’s mixed sculptural work Birmingham Beacons. Hourly parking is located on level 3 in the parking garage. Hourly parking costs $1.00 per hour or $24 per day. Daily parking is located on level 2 and 4-7 in the parking garage. There are also a small number of daily parking spaces located on level 3. Daily parking costs $1.00 per hour or $12.00 per day. The remote lot is located on Airline Drive near the terminal area. Remote parking costs $1 per hour or $10.00 per day. An Airport shuttle van will transport you and your luggage to/from the terminal building.
