Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) is located less than 6 miles southwest of Amsterdam. AMS is Europe's 4th busiest and the world's 16th busiest as of 2012. What began as a military airbase, Schiphol opened on 16 September 1916.
Transfer between Terminals
AMS was built as one large terminal and is divided into three departure halls known as Arrivals 1, 2, and 3. All of Schiphol’s facilities are located under a single roof and are easily reachable on foot.
Transport into Town
Rail: The Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the national Dutch rail service, operates a railway station directly underneath Schiphol’s terminal complex. This train service offers transportation into Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam, and many other cities. Bus: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is also easily accessible by bus. Various bus services stop at the bus station located outside of the terminal building. Bus journeys can be planned using the 9292 nationwide journey planner. Taxi: Shared taxis can be reserved online.
British Airways Galleries Lounge is located in D pier upper level lounge 40. This lounge is open daily from 06:00-21:45. KLM Crown Lounge has two locations in AMS. The KLM Crown Lounges at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol are open from 04.45 hours until the last KLM flight departs. Menzies Aviation Executive Lounge is located in Number 26, near corridor to D-gates, 2nd floor. Menzies Aviation Executive Lounge is open daily from 06:00-20:30. Penauille Servis Air Lounge is located above the casino. It is open daily from 06:00-23:00.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has extensive facilities available for travelers. AMS opened the world's first permanent airport library giving passengers access to 1,200 books by Dutch authors that have been translated into 29 languages. The Rijksmuseum operates a small art exhibit at the airport with free admission. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has a large rooftop viewing area called the Panoramaterras.
Schiphol ‘Smart’ Parking is the most economical parking option at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Parking spaces must be booked at least eight days before departure. Parking is located at the P3 and P4 long-term parking lots. These lots are accessible via an airport shuttle. Short-term parking is available at P1/P2. Rates start at €12.50 a day. Schiphol Valet Parking section is located directly in front of the Terminal. Valet parking rates are €42,50 a day. Excellence Parking is located in a small-scale, locked parking facility. The parking garage is located directly adjacent to Departures 3 and rates start at €42,50 a day. Short-stop parking can found in lot P6 located opposite the Arrivals Hall. The first fifteen minutes are free of charge, €2 for every 12 minutes after, and up to a daily maximum rate of €50.
